When I Came Home is a documentary which follows the lives and struggles of several homeless veterans, including those who have recently returned home from the war in Iraq. The film examines the factors which led over 150,000 Vietnam veterans from the battlefield to the street and asks the question: Will what happened to Vietnam veterans happen to a new generation of soldiers? The film also focuses on the veteran-led movement which is fighting to end this national disgrace.

When I Came Home is a work-in-progress. You can follow the making of the film on director Dan Lohous GNN blog:

I though the topic of this production was a very good one I think the quality of how it was done from the stand point of the video production was only four stars.

I think this video should be on all of the major networks. It is excellent information but someone at the top of the American Pyramid needs to intervene and assist ALL veterans.

First the United States of America Military System know's that this is a problem. The rights of people who serve in the military are not even on the radar scale. People that are in prison or jail have more rights in this country. Really America why? Why do we allow pregnant teengagers to get apartments and food stamps? Why in 2011/2012 does America and the entire world have women and men that pro-create with out jobs, always thinking the system and tax payers are going to take care of their habits.
The time is now for a program to be put in place to help any American Veteran to have a job, home, food after they served 2 or more years in the Military. The Military and all political groups in Washinton D.C. and all other state governments should be made to live for one month as a veteran to feel, understand and experience what they go through. America stop spending money on teen age pregnancy and make parents take care of their children. Stop coming up with excuses to bail out corporate America, Banks, Wall Street, and bail out our veterans.
Maybe if we as americans stop supporting the crap that hollywood advertises every week on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC etc, dumb programs on television by all of networks that promote nothing but stupid programming and the dumbing down of American citizens and freedoms then maybe American families and American veterans will build up this country. Wake up people - we have a country of talented and gifted people - but we have corporate, non-profit and other organizations that do not even hire American trained and educated actors. They go to Australia, England, South Africa, Brazil, Columbia and throw non-america born people on the screen and will not even give an American Born Citizen with education, veteran status a JOB....

Okay. I am 62 Years Old. I spent 8 Years in Mental Hospitals, Years on the Streets, Prisons for "homeless Crimes" to wit: Tresspassing, Burlagery (which is Sleeping in abandon building) etc. I used to Earn Money Playing JAZZ GUITAR on the Streets, that is now ILLEGAL!
So you peoples who love to say "GET A JOB." You are the REASON AMERICA is a CORPORATIST FASCIST POLICE STATE.
Anf its going to EAT YOU.

I know the homeless. Most, even vets are that way because they will not work.
Yes I know some that have been screwed by the V.A. And then people put it off onto the Goverenment, not remembering that they are the government. Or in some cases they try to put it off onto the corperation. If they are the problem, stop giving them your money dumbass.
The U.S.A. needs to stay out of other countrys shit. We need to go back too a pre-WWII state of mind and keep to ourselves. FTW!!

Good info here if you would like to stop bitching about the Government and fucking do something about it.

Subject: Ignorance and Apathy
I have always found that Americans will hide their heads in the sand (not in denial, but ignorance) when it comes to anything about what their Gov. is DOING. But when it comes to what the Gov. have done, in the past, and the "people" happen to find out, there is outrage, but nothing happens 'cause it's over, man...
Maybe more Americans would be better off if they took an active interest in what is going on at the time, not just in the U.S. of A, but the world. Some yanks refer to America as "the world"; which just points out their ignorance and arrogance. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule, but they are so few as to be like diamonds when found. Get with it people of America.

It just goes to show that the country and citizens that so proudly wave their flags for soldiers, but forget about the damage that the soldiers have to go through for their country.

They are forgotten and literally forced to the curb to be rejected as human beings.

It's disgusting. The US government and corporations are absolutely horrible in this regard and need to be stopped.

What's worse is that there are still so many people that are blind to what's going on in their own country. They only care about sending more soldiers over to fight - but they themselves have no idea what the retributions are to being a soldier.

All this is, is the words of homeless veterans. It's perfection, nothing could be added or taken away to add to the impact.

Download this, it's well worth seeing. I pray we will show more gratitude to those who have put their life on the line for us.

Subject: V.A. Liars
This movie strikes home because I have lived it. A nice sequel would be a documentary which shows that not only is the Veterans Administration not equiped to deal with homeless veterans, but the damage they do when they PRETEND they are.

For example, I've been going to V.A. hospitals for over 30 years now. Last year when I applied for Expedited Emergency Assistance from the V.A., it took them 6 months to respond to my application. Did they hope I would just die on the streets waiting for their EXPEDITED response?

And how did they finally respond? They sent me a 16 page document of poorly xeroxed copies of the Expedited Emergency Assistance Act with one page hidden in the middle announcing the results of their SIX MONTH INVESTIGATION.

The results? After "intensive" investigation, they concluded that I was a 50 year-old male ( I told them THAT in my application! ).

That's it! That's all. Oh, and that I was denied "emergency" assistance because they could not find any V.A. medical records on me.

I've been going to V.A. medical hospitals for 30 years and they haven't been keeping records??
